/The Magnetics Design Advantage/
Engineered For Severe Cyclical And Harmonic Loading.
Converting AC power to DC creates punishing harmonic profiles and sudden load swings. Our rectifier transformers utilize enhanced mechanical bracing and high-grade insulation to counteract eddy-current heating and short-circuit forces.
01
Severe-Duty Bracing
Reinforced core and coil clamping assemblies protect the internal architecture from the mechanical stress of repetitive DC short-circuit cycles.
02
Harmonic Handling
Custom multi-pulse configurations (up to 24-pulse) are mathematically designed to cancel harmful line-side harmonics right at the source.
03
Thermal Management
Advanced liquid-filled or dry-type cooling profiles dissipate internal heat generated by non-sinusoidal currents without requiring system derating.
04
Precise Voltage Taps
Engineered with multiple primary or secondary winding taps to allow precise calibration of the exact DC bridge output voltage.
/Standards & Specifications/
Designed To Meet Industry Standards
Magnetics Design rectifier transformers are calculated, built, and evaluated in strict accordance with IEEE C57.18.10 (Standard Practices and Requirements for Semiconductor Power Rectifier Transformers) and corresponding international IEC guidelines.
Whether powering a massive electrochemical plating installation, a high-voltage DC transit system, or an induction furnace, our team in Illinois develops optimized magnetic solutions tailored to your rectifier architecture.

What Our Clients Say
By Magnetics Design Substations.
Advanced transformer solutions designed to improve power quality, reduce harmonics, and maximize system performance.
We were struggling with severe harmonic distortion on our main drive lineup. Magnetics Design engineered a 24-pulse phase shifting unit that dropped our THD well below IEEE 519 limits.
Brian John
My Client
Magnetics Design turned around a quote for a custom 18-pulse transformer the same day. The build quality was exceptional, and it arrived right on schedule for our shutdown window.
Felix Chou
My Client
The VFD isolation properties on these units are bulletproof. We source all our specialty phase shift transformers from the Magnetics Design team because they get the specs right the first time.

Questions Engineers Ask
What makes a rectifier transformer different from a standard distribution transformer?
Standard distribution transformers are configured for purely sinusoidal linear loads. Rectifier transformers are specifically engineered to handle non-sinusoidal current waveforms caused by thyristors and diodes converting AC to DC. They contain specialized internal bracing to counter severe mechanical forces from short circuits, heavy copper shielding to minimize eddy-current losses, and custom winding configurations to accommodate DC bias and rich harmonic content.
Which pulse configurations can Magnetics Design accommodate?
We engineer and build units for standard 6-pulse applications, as well as highly specialized 12-pulse, 18-pulse, and 24-pulse systems. Multi-pulse configurations split the secondary loads through precise phase-displacement angles to drastically decrease total harmonic distortion (THD) on the primary line side.
What are your typical lead times and shipping options?
Lead times vary depending on whether you choose a pre-engineered stock configuration or require a fully customized design from our engineering team. We prioritize lightning-fast communication and can often provide full quotations on the same day. All units are shipped completely protected and logistics-coordinated straight from our manufacturing facilities to your job site nationwide.
Are your rectifier transformers manufactured in the USA?
Yes. Magnetics Design is an Illinois-based manufacturer. We build and test our equipment domestically, allowing us to satisfy strict procurement policies like the Buy American Act (BAA). Be sure to mention any domestic compliance rules to your project engineer.
What kind of warranty coverage do you provide?
Every rectifier duty transformer we deliver is backed by our comprehensive 3-year warranty against any defects in materials or craftsmanship. We run all equipment through exhaustive standard tests prior to leaving our factory floor to ensure immediate operational stability in demanding real-world industrial environments.
